Two posts in one day. In addition to knitting, Mike and I have found some time for fun here in the Chicago area.
On November 18, we went to see the King Tut exhibit at the Natural History Museum. It was an incredible exhibit. The artifacts on display were very interesting and it was facinating to be that close to object that were that old. That same day was the Lighting Festival on Michigan Avenue. We stayed to see the fireworks over the Chicago River. It was cold and crowded but the fireworks were awesome.
For Thanksgiving, Mike and I went to Sarah's apartment. We had a great dinner and the festivities lasted into the wee hours of the morning. We had about six of us at dinner and then a few more of Sarah's friends joined us for dessert and games. We didn't make the early morning shopping that we had planned but we did go out around 10:00am. We still got some good bargains and got our beauty sleep.
The day after Thanksgiving we went to Cedar Lake, IN to see Neen, Bill and the Kids. It was good to see them all and we are looking forward to spending New years with them.
On December 3 we went to see my friend Britta perform in the Chicago Nordic Choir. The performed serveral Christmas carols in Swedish. They sound great! Afterwards, Britta, Mike and I went ice skating at Millenium Park. It was cold but we had a lot of fun. We all managed to skate for a couple hours without falling. In early December we got several inches of snow. It was really pretty. The river started to freeze over. The river has been pretty quiet since it's gotten cold. I've heard from neighbors that it freezes enough to cross-country ski on. I can't wait. Our plan is to stay here for a while longer. We will buy a house closer in to the city this spring or early summer.
We did leave the area to attend a Christmas party hosted by our friends Lynette and Ken in Fort Wayne, IN . We got to meet Ken's family and see Lynette's mom and brother and spend some time with Marty. It will be great to see everyone again in May at Lynette and Ken's wedding.
Last weekend we went to MN for my Mom's surprise birthday party. It was a lot of fun and she was really surprise to see us show up at her door on Friday night. My Uncle Bud and Aunt Charlotte came in from Ohio. She was shocked to see my Uncle. He had not been to MN in almost 30 years. We also went to her work Christmas Party. It was nice to meet the people she works with.
That's it for now. We are heading to MN to celebrate Christmas and then Clifton Park, NY to spend New years with the Torrence Clan.
Have a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
